Ending abortion: Prudence v. All or Nothing

Ending abortion: Prudence v. All or Nothing |The Mark Harrington Show | 2-22-19

As the Ohio Heartbeat Bill receives another round of hearings in the Ohio legislature, some discussion of political tactics has re-emerged.

After what happened in the lame duck session, when Ohio lawmakers came one vote away from overriding then Gov. John Kasich’s veto, we know there are more than likely enough votes to pass the Heartbeat Bill. Now, Ohio has a governor who will sign the bill and it could be put into law sometime very soon.

Of course, there is the typical opposition from abortion supporters. Oddly, in past years the bill was opposed by Ohio Right to Life. But this time around, opposition isn’t coming from Ohio Right to Life (who now supports the bill).  In the past, some incrementalists opposed the bill because it went too far. This time some pro-life advocates are opposing the legislation because it doesn’t go far enough.

Aided by an interview with former State Representative Christian Hagan, Mark tackles this difficult topic by comparing both views.

With the changing composition of the Supreme Court, and the uncertain status of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, there could soon be enough justices to overturn Roe v Wade, which would return the abortion issue back where it belongs to the state legislatures. This is another reason why we need to understand the best way forward.
